DIYIYD (Do it Yourself if You Dare): Chevron Canvas

My obsession for all things chevron continues…I was inspired by a canvas of messy chevron lines in an interesting colour palette that I saw on Etsy, until I spotted the price. $1,600.

Say it with me now: HELL TO THE NO!
The Inspiration
I thought it would be ridiculously easy to recreate, especially because the lines are purposely messy, and I already had everything I needed to make it.

All you need is a blank canvas, pack of acrylic paints, plastic tray to mix your colours and various sized brushes, all of which can be purchased from Kmart for less than $15.

First you will need to decide on a colour palette and start mixing until you get the shades you want – I went with a few different muted pastel tones, as well as gold, white and a really dark navy (almost black) to break it up. You will want around 7 different colours and make sure you assign a brush to each colour so they don’t get mixed up.

Then all you need to do is start painting. I cannot stress how easy this project is, seriously a five year old could do it. You want the lines to be intentionally imperfect, so don’t be precise. I was day two into a juice cleanse, so my low blood sugar and naturally shaky hand added to the effect. Start from the bottom and just take turns in layering a different colour over the top, you don’t even need to keep the colours in the same order, just randomly pick up a brush and start squiggling!

It was pretty time consuming (it took me just over 2 hours), but I’m really happy with the finished product, which now sits on our bright hall table.

Side note: In case you were interested, the juice cleanse was a total success. I rewarded myself for all the hard work with a homemade veggie burger and 2 snickers ice creams. They totally equal out, right? Anybody? Nope. Okay….
