I have been lucky enough to call this lady a dear friend for more than 10 years now, and though she wears but many a hat (including on occasion, a fedora), she is living breathing proof that women can have it all without sacrificing their independence. For this alone, she will always be someone I look up to. I would describe Hosko as an entertaining story teller, fashion risk taker, Perth cafe expert, Buzzfeed aficionado, Kate Hudson doppelganger, co-founder of the 10 mins early alliance & all-round glamazon.
As a master of "Would you rather", it would be
wrong of me to interview you and not ponder one of life's conundrums...
Would you rather, cook dinner every night for the rest of
your life
OR
In all your wedding photos Josh has the same hair as Keri
Russel's disastrous chop circa 1999?
This is easy for me. Ms Russel’s “pobbly” pixie
semi-bleached crop is symbolic of two of my favourite things: Mid to late 90s
drama series’ set in the halls of American colleges…and 90s boy bands. Justin
Timberlake, anyone? In this case, the curls get the girls! As for cooking every
night for the rest of my life? Not only would be husband have not-so-luscious
locks, he would also probably be slowly poisoned.
What does "wellness" mean to you?
If we are talking semantics (and I do love me a little word
play) then ‘wellness’ is merely the opposite of ‘illness’. Wellness, to me, is
about an holistic approach to health. Taking care of your insides, looking good
on the outside, and, most importantly, doing whatever you can to maintain a
positive outlook on life. I am also a firm believer in looking out for the
wellness of others. Working with teens, it is my responsibility to “look out”
for signs of stress, anxiety and depression. I approach it like a sort of Mental
Health First Aid. There are things you can do, immediately, to help reduce
risks to those around you.
You obviously have great genes, but I know you work damn hard to get that body and those abs! my god! What do you do to keep fit?
Well thank you! I have danced all my life. This has certainly helped with my fitness, but more importantly, it normalised the notion of an active lifestyle. I still dance, but I always try new things. I’m a fad exerciser! Bikram Yoga, Pilates, Xtend Barre, you name it, I’ve done an introductory offer! I exercise consciously 3 to 4 times a week (a mixture of cardio, free weights and cross fit style circuits) but I am active everyday. I barely use my car on the weekends. Years of trying every activity known to man, I’ve realised that only one thing will get results. SWEAT.
As a self proclaimed hater of cooking, describe what you eat on a typical day....
Breakfast is muesli and yoghurt (I don’t bother with anything low or non fat. I’d rather have the good stuff, just a bit less of it). I have a coffee every day. I’m a fan of a long mac like you, Shan!
Recess (yep, I’m a teacher) is a piece of fruit and some almonds.
Lunch is normally a tuna and salad sandwich followed by some chocolate. Yes, everyday.
After school I will normally munch on some berries as though I am in The Hunger Games. It's very dramatic.
Dinner is usually some fish or steak and salad and yes, some choccies to finish up!
I only drink water during the day and alcohol is a rarity.
What made you want to become a teacher?
I know it may sound idealistic, but teaching is the only thing I have ever wanted to do. I didn’t even consciously choose it. It was just the way it was meant to be. I thank my lucky stars everyday that I am able to build meaningful relationships with my amazing students. I have hope for our future.
3 things that make you happy.....
1) Guffawing over mundane life observations with my girls.
2) Saturday morning breakfasts. So many possibilities lie ahead.
3) Reality TV. I make no apologies for this.
On a typical weekend in Perth, we would find you.....
Breakfasting in Leederville, shopping at Karrinyup, catching up on Vanderpump Rules, coffee-ing with my ladies, marking essays, reading chick-lit, going to the gym and trying to convince Josh that we need to rescue a greyhound. Sunday afternoons are for “unwinding” which means a body scrub, a leave in hair treatments and a face mask.
If your life was turned into a musical, which celebrity would play you, and what song would they sing for the finale?
I have been told I dance a bit like Leslie Mann and the fact that she is a comedic actress would work well in my light-hearted life story. As for a finale song? It would have to be something by Ke$ha. Why? So I can throw glitter everywhere. It’s kinda my metaphor for life.
Seriously, what a babe! Stay tuned for more on this talented young lady and her upcoming wedding to the equally genetically blessed Joshua....
